Two wrecks hurt two people west of Checotah yesterday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
James Soulsby, 74, of Oklahoma City was a passenger in a single-vehicle wreck on westbound I-40 around 3:15 p.m. in heavy rain, the patrol reported. The driver of the vehicle lost control and hydroplaned off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Soulsby was transported to Saint John’s Hospital in Tulsa with undisclosed injuries, where he was admitted. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
UPDATE: Soulsby has died from his injuries.
In a separate single-vehicle collision half an hour later, Felicia Roberts, 27, of Tulsa was hurt when the 2006 Toyota 4-Runner she was driving eastbound on I-40 departed the roadway to the right and struck a tree. She was transported to Hillcrest Hospital in Henryetta with head and internal injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt.
