Carrie Arlene Caforia, 39, of Muskogee is charged with embezzling $3,000 from the Family Dollar store she managed, according to a case filed in Muskogee County District Court. Caforia is alleged to have canceled a number of cash transactions after she had taken cash from the customers, and kept the cash, according to the accusation.
The store’s corporate office noticed what it believed to be an abnormally high number of canceled transactions, so they reviewed videos of transactions performed by Caforia and then alerted authorities.
Caforia is alleged to have confessed that she stole around $3,000 from the store.
James Sawyer, 41, of Muskogee is also charged with embezzlement from Brant Barnes, at 811 W. Shawnee, which is the location of Papa John’s Pizza. According to court documents, he is accused of failing to make cash deposits totaling $2,907.96 between Aug. 31 and Sept. 9.
The documents allege that Sawyer, who used to own and operate Da Sawyer’s Eats and Sweets, used the money to pay personal bills.
Both suspects are facing felony charges.
