Deputy Chris Gilfillan administers a field sobriety test to a patient who has smoked marijuana.

It is not as easy to detect marijuana intoxication as it is alcohol or other drugs, so police agencies including the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office are teaming with marijuana advocacy groups at Davis Field right now to understand marijuana intoxication, its effects and how to prevent catastrophes.

A closed course is set up where people who are intoxicated on marijuana can learn that driving intoxicated is not the same as driving sober, and enabling officers to notice the cues that might indicate an intoxicated driver.

In addition, officers are doing field sobriety tests to patients who have consumed marijuana.

The event is in coordination with a group called Oklahoma Natural Grass, working to show the differences between smoking and driving, drinking and driving and texting and driving.
