The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Cherokee County early yesterday morning. Based on the OSBI’s initial investigation, this is what is known at this time:
At around 3:40 a.m., Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the 19500 block of W. Cookson Bend Rd, Cookson.
The domestic violence call involved Jerett Gray, 23, and a woman. The woman told Gray that the police were being called, the woman told the OSBI. Gray told the woman to tell the cops that he would start shooting at the cops when they got there.
Upon the arrival of the deputies, Gray fired at the deputies and one of the deputies returned fire, the OSBI reported. No officers were struck during the exchange of gunfire.
Gray fled the immediate area and hid.
Deputies later found him deceased with a single gunshot wound.
