Roger Burton, 33, of Muskogee is charged in Muskogee County District Court with two felonies and three misdemeanors after a chase through Muskogee streets at speeds that police say reached up to 135 miles per hour.
Police say Burton was riding a motorcycle with an expired tag and no insurance around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 when officers attempted to pull him over. Instead, they say, he gunned the bike and sped through Muskogee streets at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour in residential neighborhoods, and then when the bike got to a main road, it traveled up to 135 miles per hour, passing multiple vehicles on the left side, causing several to almost wreck with police cars. Police allege he also ran a roadblock during the same chase.
Burton is charged with felony running a roadblock, felony endangering others while attempting to elude police, and three misdemeanors: driving with a canceled or suspended license, failure to carry insurance and failure to pay taxes due the state.
