Cody Medlin, 23, of Muskogee was arrested Friday on a complaint of first-degree manslaughter in the April 27 death of Sherry Thompson, 56, of Warner.
Thompson, the wife of Warner Police Chief Terry Thompson, was driving on US 64 when Medlin’s Jeep Laredo crossed the center line and hit her head-on, police reported.
Medlin was extracted from his vehicle by Warner firefighters. A juvenile passenger with Thompson was treated and released at an area hospital. Thompson was pronounced dead on the scene.
Medlin had been left of center “for 4 or 5 miles” before the noon wreck, according to an eyewitness. Medlin “appeared to be having some sort of issue,” the witness told police.
Medlin had consumed marijuana within 24 hours, the affidavit states, including while driving the night before. A witness in the car with him earlier in the morning stated that Medlin “had a difficult time staying awake” while driving home from work that morning. His blood tested positive for fentanyl and cannabis.
