Wanda Jean (Garrett) Downum, 79, of Council Hill, OK peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Wanda was born on February 22, 1942 in Fame, Oklahoma to Mae (Branch) and J.D. Garrett. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning, road trips, cooking, quilting, sewing, helping others, and spending time with her family, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Wanda lived a very full and active life. She never let her disability slow her down. Wanda was fiercely independent. Wanda and Lowell welcomed many people into their home over the years and cared for them. They had an open door for anyone who needed it. Wanda and Lowell owned the third largest pig farm in Oklahoma at one time and was featured in the Farmers and Stockham magazine. Wanda was a long-time homemaker who worked as a waitress with her mother, Mae, in her younger years. She was a loving mother, granny/memaw, sister, aunt, and friend. Wanda will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell Lester Downum; and brothers, Joe Garrett and Dee Garrett. Those left to cherish Wanda’s memory are her children, Larry Garrett and wife, Cindy of Council Hill; Wendy Cannon of Council Hill; Christina Bradford of Eufaula; and Sarah Wrobbel of Morehead, Minnesota; stepdaughter, Lowella Oldham of California; grandchildren, Chris Garrett and wife, Amy of Checotah; Rusty Garrett of Columbus, OH; Jordan Garrett of Council Hill; Dylan Cannon of Council Hill; Taylor Johnson of Council Hill; Miya Bradford of Eufaula; Jaden Bradford of Eufaula; Marissa Carlson of Minnesota; Leah Christopherson of Minnesota; and Morgan Haldorson of Minnesota; step-grandchildren, Tim Stewart of California; Aaron Stewart of California; and Jamie Oldham of California; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Allison and husband, Tommy of Council Hill; brother, Rick Garrett and wife, Debbie of Oklahoma City; several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. Wanda’s family are honoring her wishes to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
