Well done, thou good and faithful servant….On January 7, 2020 with his wife by his side Thomas “Tommie” Johnson Sr. inhaled on earth and exhaled in Heaven. Spending his first birthday with Jesus.

On April 16, 1955 a baby boy was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Henry and Mable Johnson. They named this bundle of joy Thomas Virgil Johnson. He received Christ on the direction of Dr. B. W. Noble of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful servant serving as a usher, and later becoming a Deacon until his health began to decline.

Tommie attended Dunbar Elementary, Sadler Jr High, and later graduating from Muskogee High with the class of 1973. Tommie worked for the city of Muskogee Parks and Recreation for 23 years retiring in 1998.

Tommie loved his family and enjoyed coaching and mentoring his son Virgil and friends in baseball. He believed that “family was everything and he showed it by always giving lots of love”. Tommie’s heart was one of willingness, who had a servant’s heart, true to his word and without fail. You could always depend on him to help others and give a strong word of advice and a listening ear.He loved taking long drives with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mable Johnson, paternal grandparents, Rev. R.B. and Wilma Johnson; maternal grandparents, Sally Smith and Thomas Leaks; two sisters, Elaine and Barbara Johnson.

Tommie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 48 years Patricia “Pat” Johnson of the home, his loving son, Thomas Virgil Johnson Jr. (Andreka) of Muskogee; seven grandchildren, Thomas III and Hailey Johnson, Serenity Burkhalter, Goldyn Johnson, Christopher Pace, Vi’Ryah Johnson and Tryston Johnson all of Muskogee; five sisters, Karen Frith, Deborah Loggins and Cheryl Livingston of Muskogee, Velma Pettit, Oklahoma City, Sharon Livingston, Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Michael Johnson, Kansas City, MO and Henry Johnson of Muskogee; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Home Going Service will be Thursday, January 16, 2020, 11:00 a.m., Antioch Temple of Hope, 500 W. Broadway St., Muskogee, OK. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee, OK.

Visitation, Wednesday January 15, 2020, 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
