Thomas E. “Tommy” Barnett Sr., 56, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at his home. He was born September 6, 1962 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Johnny E. and Betty J. (Cooley) Barnett; the youngest of 5 children, all boys. He attended Muskogee Public Schools.
Tommy married Kathy LaJean Pennington on January 19, 1984 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. They shared more than 35 years of life, marriage, and memories together.
He worked as an electrician for Wofford Electric for 15 years until his health began to fail.
Tommy will always be remembered for his sweet and gentle spirit and for the smile you got every time you saw him. He never met a stranger. Family was Tommy’s greatest joy; he always made time for them and was a father figure to many.
His hobbies were fishing, working in his yard and garden, and playing his guitar. Tommy started playing the guitar at the age of 16 and developed his talent of playing any song by ear.
He was a Christian and loved the Lord. He accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man.
Tommy was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Barnett; twin brothers, Darryl and Farryl Barnett; grandparents, Ralph and Inez Barnett, and Margaret Davis.
Tommy is survived by his father, Johnny Barnett; wife, Kathy Barnett; daughter, Brittany Clark and husband Ron; son, T. J. Barnett; brothers, Toby Barnett and wife Gail, Tony Barnett; grandchildren, Rhyley Pack Barnett, Kieli Clark, R. J. Clark, Kyleigh Barnett, Noah Clark, Blake Hall, and Kia Clark; great-granddaughter, Imani Hall; along with other family members and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Tommy’s life will be 3PM, Monday, July 29, 2019 at Crescent Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Chadd Pendergraft officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Toby Barnett, Tony Barnett, Gene Ellis, David Pennington, Jack Wofford, Steve Perry, Kenny Messer, Tody Etchison, Kevin Etchison, Mark Etchison, Glenn Aldridge, and Patrick Harmon.
