Thelma Maxine “Mickey” (Barnes) Collins passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Muskogee, OK. She was born December 26, 1932 to Richard and Mabel Barnes in Wainwright, OK. She attended Boynton Public Schools until the 11th grade before moving to Berryhill High School where she graduated. Mickey then earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Northeastern State University.
On August 10th 1958, she married Archie Wayne Collins. They shared a loving marriage for almost 50 years before his passing in 2008.
Mickey was an educator at Webbers Falls Elementary School for 20 years until her retirement in 1994. Mickey was also a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Warner. Mickey deeply loved her family and was loved in return, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them to read and playing games.
Mickey is survived by her children: Mark Collins and Nancy of Inman, KS; Jeffrey Collins of Warner, OK; and Janet Miller and Erec of Muskogee, OK. Grandchildren: Jessica Randolph and Michael of Vian, OK; Megan Collins and Josh Williams of Inman, KS; and Katelyn McMullin and Zachary of Comanche, OK. Great-grandchildren: Joshua Williams, Jr, Mikayla Randolph, Hailey Williams, Mark Williams, and Liam Randolph. Brother: Bill Barnes and Shelba of Okmulgee, OK.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters: Gladys Badgwell (Lawrence); Irene Swain (Kenneth); bothers: Richard Barnes, Jr. and Gene Barnes (Della); sister-in-law, Louise Patterson (Alva).
A celebration of Mickey’s life will be Monday, November 18th, 2019 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church of Warner with Blaine Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Warner Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bradley Kilpatrick, Josh Stafford, Michael Randolph, Zachary McMullin, Josh Williams, and Kevin Wallis.
The family would like to thank Dr. Faisal Wasi, Encompass Home Health and all the nurses and aids at the skilled units for taking care of Mickey. The family would also like a special thank you to Denise Johnson for her loving care and patience.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donation be made to Warner First Baptist Church “Backpack for Kids”.
