Shirley Brazil Wainman, 85, passed away on May 5, 2021. She was born on January 28, 1936 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Truman Brazil and Wanda Harris. Shirley attended Central High School in Muskogee and was part of the Class of 1953.
Shirley was a member of First United Methodist Church in Muskogee, OK and was part of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Muskogee. She started working at the VA in Muskogee during high school and worked various positions. She went on to work for the VA in Washington, D.C. as a VA counselor and retired from the VA in Connecticut.
After retiring she traveled the country in an RV with her husband, Robert from Maine to Alaska. They also traveled to Hawaii several times. She was an avid seamstress. Shirley enjoyed making clothes and toys for her grandchildren. Summers were filled with gardening and trips to the lake or oceans with her children. She enjoyed square dancing in Muskogee during the 60’s. She was a member of Eastern Star, the Muskogee Hope Chapter for fifty years until 2016.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Wanda and Truman Brazil; brothers, David T Brazil and Charles Brazil.
She is survived by her husband, Robert C Wainman; daughter, Cheryl Wainman- Piotrowski and husband, John Henry Piotrowski of Arizona; son, Robert Charles Wainman, Jr. and wife, Margaret Wainman of Connecticut; grandchildren, Lori A Walling and Trey Wainman of Connecticut; great- granddaughter, Abbygail Berrios of Connecticut; and sister, Bertha O’Neal.
