On April 27, 1931, in Centerville, MS, a bouncing baby boy was born to Luke and Katie Jackson. His name was Preston Wysal Jackson. He was oldest of 4 siblings, Conniveve, Marguerite, and Idella. The family moved to Chicago when Preston was just 4 years old. He attended Raymond Elementary School and graduated from Dunbar Vocational High School in Chicago, IL. He attended Mary Allen College in Crockett, TX, Midwestern College in Chicago, IL, Chicago Teacher’s College.
Rev. Jackson accepted Christ at an early age and accepted his call from God to the ministry. Rev. Jackson has been preaching the gospel for 72 years.
A young Preston met the love of his life Irene L. Cain at Morning Star Baptist Church, Chicago, IL. The two were married June 20, 1954. A true testament to love and marriage, they remained married for 68 years. To this union 5 beautiful children were born: Cheryl, Preston, Jr., Clay, David, and Joy.
In December of 1959, Rev. Jackson was called to the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee, Ok. While in Okmulgee, Pastor Jackson was active in the community, serving as president of the Ministerial Alliance and Okmulgee PTA, counselor for Okmulgee Public Schools and Oklahoma State Technological School. He served as Vice Mayor of Okmulgee and was the director for the Okmulgee County Headstart. He was an instructor for Liberty Bible College. He served as moderator of the Southwest Creek and Seminole district for 37 years; was 1st Vice President of the General Baptist Convention State Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress and 2nd Vice President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Oklahoma. He served 2 terms as President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention.
With all of his many accomplishments, he was most proud to be a child of God. A Christian. He truly loved First Baptist Church where he served as pastor for 63 years. He considered members of First Baptist as family.
On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, Rev. Jackson finished his race and went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family. Pastor Jackson was preceded in death by both parents; Katie and Luke, his sisters Connieve Wheaton and Marguerite Bland.
Pastor Jackson leaves to cherish his memories his wife Irene of 68 years, his children; Cheryl, Preston, Jr., Clay, David (Beverly), and Joy; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends.
A Home Going Celebration, will be conducted, Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church-Central, Okmulgee, OK with son, Rev. Clay Jackson, eulogizing. Interment will follow in Okmulgee cemetery.
Rev. Jackson will lie-in-state, Friday, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church-Central, 521 N. Central St. Okmulgee, OK during the hours of 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
