Born Saturday, July 30, 1949
Died Thursday, June 25, 2020
Paul Isaac Butler, 70, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma peacefully passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side. On July 30, 1949 in Boynton, Oklahoma, the narrow 2-lane highway was turned into a makeshift runway, illuminated by tractor-light, for a tiny prop plane carrying a doctor. Once landed, the doctor hopped on that same tractor for the ride to the house to deliver Paul to his parents, Frank and Rose (Wolfenbarger) Buttler, they soon moved West to Byron, California where Paul grew up and attended school.
Paul served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He proudly served his Country from August 21, 1969 to August 19, 1971, earning an honorable discharge. Paul received many commendations for his bravery in combat, which included the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign, and the Army Commendation Medal.
He met his future wife, Bobbi Wilks, playing volleyball at the YMCA in Muskogee. He quickly became a part of the regionally famous volleyball games at the Wilks family home. They were united in marriage on January 22, 1983 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Paul worked for Arkhola and retired in 2011, he was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He had a huge passion for fishing, with their dogs, Buster and Butch, he and his brother Jerry fished anywhere permitted. (many thanks to Dick and Brian Sheffield, Gary Cook, and probably a few more, for allowing them access). He also loved cars and hot rods, watching anything that was going fast and taking sharp turns! Could re-work and get just about any kind of motor up and running, with little to nothing. But his greatest love was his family and especially his grandbabies, Isaac and Kaylynn.
Paul is lovingly survived by his wife, Bobbi; son, Michael and his wife, Savannah Butler of Fort Gibson; brothers, Jerry Butler of Fort Gibson and Robert Buttler of Longview, Washington; grandchildren Isaac and Kaylynn; nieces and nephews; numerous extended family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jessie Buttler, Frank Buttler, Fred Buttler and Ralph Buttler; and a sister, Erma Dean Buttler (yes, Paul and Jerry were the only 2 born as single “t’s”, reference the earlier paragraph, the doctor made it, spelling at that point was not important).
Viewing for Paul will be 2PM-4PM Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson, OK.
A private service will be held 10:00AM Monday, June 29, 2020 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery Pavilion, Fort Gibson, OK with Pastor Brett Baggett officiating.
Full military honors will be observed.
The family of Paul Isaac Butler has entrusted his care, services and burial to Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home, Fort Gibson, OK. 918-478-2555.
