Modena was born July 27, 1926 in Braggs, OK the daughter of William Alonzo and Jurdia (Kirk) Summers. A lifelong resident of Braggs, she graduated from Northeastern State University, and taught at Braggs Elementary, until she married the love of her life, Dewey Hutchens, on December 11, 1946. Modena then began her true calling as homemaker, wife, and mother to Donnie and Judy. Modena and Dewey were married for 70 wonderful years until Dewey’s passing on January 1, 2017.
Modena was a God-fearing woman. She served faithfully and diligently as Treasurer for First Baptist Church of Braggs for many years until her health began to fail her. Just as importantly, she was the loving matriarch of her large family and was known as “Granny” to many- even those not of relation to her because of her warm and caring personality.
