Michael David Smith, 61

Born Wednesday, October 15, 1958

Died Wednesday, September 2, 2020

Reverend Michael David Smith was born on October 15, 1958 in Mooreland, Oklahoma to Sandra Smith and P. Albert Smith. He left this life after a brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on September 2, 2020. After graduating from Guymon High School, Mike worked at Panhandle Eastern for ten years. Then, he felt a calling by God and moved to Muskogee to attend Rhema Bible College. He went back to work for Panhandle Eastern in Alva while pursuing his bachelor's degree. Through work, he transferred back to Guymon. God then called him into full time ministry where he served as pastor at Hardesty United Methodist Church for four years. During this time, he graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. After receiving a full ride to Southern Methodist University, he and his family moved to Como, Texas where he served as pastor for five years while completing his Masters at SMU. The Oklahoma Conference then called him to return as pastor of Mooreland FUMC for eight years. Next, they moved to Ponca City to serve at Ponca City FUMC for the next eleven years. Mike then made the full circle in his ministry by returning to Muskogee to serve First United Methodist Church Muskogee.
Mike married Linda K. Garrison on November 24, 1978. They raised four children: Amber, Micha, Joshua and Rachel. Mike enjoyed nature by sitting outdoors at home, hiking mountains in Colorado, or hitting the ski slopes. He loved his family and cherished his time with them. Being a grandpa, A.K.A “Gramps”, to “Sweet Pea”, “Moe” and “Moose” brought a child-like joy to him. Mike ministered to many throughout his career and was truly blessed by those he served.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, P. Albert Smith; his sister, Melinda Taylor; father-in-law, Bill Garrison, and grand pup, Isa. He is survived by his wife, Linda; mother, Sandra Smith; mother-in-law, Lauretta Garrison; daughters, Amber Flowers and husband Rodney; Micha White and husband Jay; son, Joshua Smith; daughter, Rachel Smith-Streck and husband Matt; grandchildren, Aubrey, Kaiden and Landry Flowers, grand pups, Zeus, Milo and Hector, and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be 12PM-8PM, Friday, September 4, 2020 and 9AM-1PM, Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.
A family conducted memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Muskogee and conducted by Reverend Randy Wade and Reverend Cindy Culver, Chaplain.
