Born Friday, May 29, 1925

Died Thursday, January 14, 2021

Mabel Lee Sanderson (aka Mom, Grandma Mabel, Great Great, Pompa), 95, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on the morning of January 14, 2021.
Mabel was born to Louise and John Schulte, May 29, 1925 on the family farm in Claflin, Kansas. She was the youngest daughter of 9 siblings.
She married Joseph Warren Sanderson in Wichita, Kansas on February 7, 1953.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe; and her nine siblings; Leonard, Dan, John, Al, Jim, Frank, Charles, Lila and Laverne.
She was a wonderfully devoted mother to her three children, Louise Bishop and her husband Gary and Joe Sanderson of Muskogee, OK and Pam Morris of Chehalis, WA.
She was a loving Grandma to Laura, Joseph, Hilary, Scott, Hollie, Matt and Ben and a great-Grandma to Cole, Gray, Sam, Maris, Beckett, Joseph, John, Rose, Sophia and Brooks.
Mabel humbly always put others before herself and stubbornly refused anything in return. With faith in her heart and a rosary in her hand, there wasn’t anything she couldn’t overcome. She impacted so many with her caring nature, compassion, love and her beautiful smile.
She was a sports enthusiast and in particular, she followed the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She was also known to follow the Seattle Mariners and OU football.
She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events such as football and soccer, she was their greatest fan!
In Mabel’s younger years, she was ahead of her time as she soloed in a small Piper Cub airplane at the tender age of 19 and later was part of an elite group of women who were instrumental in the production of aircraft for the war effort in the 40’s.
She owned and ran her own business in the 70’s called the ‘Cheese Board’ in Muskogee. Later worked for 10 years at Brockway Glass, also in Muskogee.
Mabel was loved and cherished by her family and she always left an impression of caring and good nature for everyone she met. She was a dear and amazing woman!
A memorial service celebrating Mabel’s life will be at 12:00, Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Cristler celebrant.
