Leland Patrick Smith, 69, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020. He was born on October 5, 1950 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Hoak Smith and Imogene Frances (Andrews) Smith. He attended and graduated from Muskogee Central High School, class of 1968. From 1969-1971, he served in the United States Navy - USS Independence during the Jordanian Crisis. He was awarded the Admiral Flatley Memorial Award in 1970. On January 31, 1986, he married the love of his life Kimberly Jo (Kelly) Smith at the Muskogee Court House. They spent over 34 years together with many good memories. Kim always called him the “Energizer Bunny” because even through his bad health issues, he would bounce back and keep going.
Leland was a hard worker and always provided for his family. He worked at Brockway Glass from 1978-1998, he also worked at Sherwin Williams, Muskogee Regional Hospital as a security Guard, and as Jailor for the city of Muskogee. He was also a member at the Church of Christ (Westside). Leland loved playing basketball when he was younger. He also loved fishing, camping, and watching sports, particularly OU. Most of all, he loved his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He would give the grandkids popcorn, they loved him. He loved people, never meeting a stranger, he loved to joke and make people laugh. Leland loved life; he was a fighter in the long battle with his illness.
Leland is preceded in death by his parents, Hoak and Imogene Smith; father-in-law, Charles Kelly; sister, Deva Tidwell; brother, Terry Smith; brother-in-law, Glen Johnson; grandparents, Lee and Helen Smith, Opal and Lura Andrews.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Smith; sons, Kyndle Smith and spouse Chelsea, Lee Smith and spouse Traci, Olin Smith and spouse Jen, and Danny Price; daughters, Kelly Duck and spouse Jim, and Dawn Yenik and spouse Steven; sisters, Judy Johnson, Carol McDaniel and spouse Sam; mother-in-law, Joye Kelly; special nephew, David Thomas, who helped and called him often; grandchildren, Raelynn, Hayden, Steffan, Kadence, Joshua, Leannah, Kaylee, Karson, Nathan, Brianna, Tessa, Frankie, Payton, Maddox, Isaiah, Angeleena, Jaidyn, and Luke; longtime friend, Kim Asay; special friends, Bud (deceased) and Dorothy Boyd; numerous other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Visitation for Leland will be 1:00pm-5:00pm Saturday, April 4th, 2020, 1:00pm-5:00pm Sunday, April 5th, 2020, and 9:00am-8:00pm Monday, April 6th, 2020 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
Leland’s life will be celebrated with a private family service with Reverend Donnie Echols officiating. Kim Asay, Leroy Andrews, Larry Beavers, Tony Heinrichs, and Troy Manasco will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
