Kenneth Myers, 84

Born Friday, August 16, 1935

Died Sunday, December 1, 2019

Kenneth Granville Myers passed away December 1, 2019. He was born on August 16, 1935 to Granvil and Myrtle Myers. He grew up in McAlester, Oklahoma and graduated from McAlester High School. He attended college at Oklahoma State University, where he earned a BS in Geology, and fell in love with ballroom dancing. He served as an airman in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1958 to 1962 as a machinist.
In May of 1961, he married fellow McAlester High School Alumnus, Patsy Budzinsky, in Russellville, Arkansas.
Beginning in 1962, he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company, starting out as a roughneck; with the company’s assistance, he obtained a degree in geophysics, and spent thirty years with Phillips. Moving a total of twenty-seven times, he took his wife, son Kenneth, and daughter Patricia with him on a globetrotting adventure, that included a year in Australia, two years in Singapore, and three years in Norway. He enjoyed participating in rattlesnake roundups, and won prices for capturing the biggest rattlesnakes, frequently keeping specimens in the garage.
He was an active member of the Chandler Road Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Granvil and Myrtle Myers; brothers Orion and Rudolph; and sister Novella.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; son Kenneth; and daughter Patricia.

A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be 1:00pm Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Elder Chris Wilson and Eddie Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Garden in McAlester, Oklahoma with Zane Box, David Davis, Tony Nichols, Michael Carney, Carl Frazier, Stan Cole, Danny Branch, and Howard Avery serving as Pallbearers.
