June Marie Ray, 71

Born Thursday, June 17, 1948

Died Wednesday, October 30, 2019

June Marie Ray was born to Lillie Mae Anderson Hamlet and Homer L. Ray on June 17, 1948 in Muskogee, OK. She was raised in the home of her mother and step-father Wilbur E. Hamlet Sr.

She grew up in Muskogee, OK, attended Muskogee public school where she graduated from the historic Manual Training High School class of 1966 and was a very active member. She worked on the MTHS Scholarship Fund program every year.

June accepted Christ at an early age joining the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She served as a dedicated faithful doorkeeper for over 60 years. She served on different committee’s in the church, she was a treasurer, secretary of the Usher Board, chairlady of the Otissey D. Circle, member of the Pastors Aide Committee, served on the Pastors Anniversary Committee.

After the birth of her son Jarvis in 1985, she furthered her studies and went back to school and received her Bachelor Degree in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. She worked for Headstart program for several years, after she retired from the education field she started working at Walmart. She enjoyed working and seeing people and friends coming in and out of the store.

June was a proud mother to her son and her grandchildren. She was so happy when they would come and spend the summer with her. June was a loving sister. She was the 7th child out of 8 siblings. She was a sweet aunt to all of her nieces and nephews and a loving friend.

On October 30, 2019 at 3:44 a.m. The Lord said well done my good and faithful servant.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, step father, sister, Allie M. Ray, brother, Wilbur E. Hamlet Jr., aunt, Margaret Dunway, uncle, Calvin Anderson, two nephews Julius Moore and Devoy Hill III.

She leaves to cherish her Home Going, her only son Jarvis (Rena) of Dallas, TX, five grandchildren, Adrian, Paris, Zarrya, Camryn and Kaleb all of Dallas, TX, her sisters, Gwen Tucker, Washington, D.C., Geraldine Travis, Muskogee, OK, Charlene Wilson, Okmulgee, OK, her two brothers, Dr. Carl Peterson (Janice), Columbus, OH, Joe L. Ray, Muskogee, OK and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Other sisters included are: Thelma Davis and family, Muskogee, OK, Loretta Shuttle and Family of Minnesota, Doris Johnson and Family and Shirley Ray of Tulsa, OK, Wilma Ray, OKC, OK, our Milwaukee Family and Smith Family.

She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Memorial rites, Friday, November 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Mt Calvary Baptist Church, 622 N.6th St. Muskogee, OK, with Pastor Gary Hall, eulogizing.

The family has been cared for by House of Winn-Muskogee.
