Joyce Marie Springfield, 84

Born Thursday, March 5, 1936

Died Wednesday, April 1, 2020

Joyce Marie Springfield, 84, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in her home in Fort Gibson, Ok with her loving family by her side. Joyce was born March 5, 1936 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Harold and Marie (Selz) Mitchell. Joyce received her formal education in Wyandotte Schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan. She worked as a clerk for Michigan Bell Company for 32 years, where she held multiple positions. She retired in 1990.
After living in Michigan for 55 years, she moved to Fort Gibson, OK which was her home for the last 29 years, where she became known as “Nana” to her family and their friends. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ft. Gibson. She was involved with the United Methodist Woman’s Group, American Legion Auxiliary, Volunteer RSVP, church committee, Salvation Army, and Home Town Hospice Volunteer for 5 years. She bloomed into our beautiful, “social butterfly”.
“Nana” was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She definitely wasn’t your typical Grandma as she had a great sense of humor and at times made our lives interesting. She was a peacemaker, enjoyed volunteering, gave selflessly, loved deeply, forgave freely, and served others without thinking twice about it. She was independent, strong willed, had an immeasurable love for her family and friends. We are grateful for her example of unwavering faith and her love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Joyce is survived by her daughters; Lisa Springfield of Muskogee, Angela and husband Curtis Tyner of Okay. Joyce is the proud Nana of 4 grandchildren; Bethany and husband Chris Russell of Lebanon, Tennessee, Jennifer and husband Devin Voyles of Monticello, Illinois, Cody and wife Amber Springfield Of Yuma, Arizona, and Matthew Springfield of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren; Maverick Russell, Maryn Russell of Lebanon, Tennessee, Noah Voyles, Eli Voyles, and soon to be Luke Voyles, of Monticello, Illinois as well as nieces, nephews, dear friends and family who miss her greatly but God assures we will see her again. She is preceded in death by her parents; Harold and Marie Mitchell, and 3 siblings; Keith Mitchell, Gene Mitchell and Kay Robinet as well as a great granddaughter Maven Russell, all of whom are overjoyed to see her. A celebration honoring her life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers the family has requested to make donations to the Fort Gibson First United Methodist Church in memory of Joyce Marie Springfield. The family would like to thank her friends, extended family and Emerald Hospice of Wagoner for their love, support and prayers throughout this emotional and difficult time.
