John William Shiew, 75, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019. He was born on September 19, 1943 to Bert and Sybil (Jestice) Shiew in Muskogee, Oklahoma. John graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1961. He married the love of his life, Linda Joyce White, on October 14, 1961. They shared 57 years of marriage together.
John worked at Sears as a service technician until his retirement in 1999. He worked on guns and he also worked at Centralized Service. John’s favorite name was Papa, and he was also called Johnnie and Dad. He loved horses and enjoyed riding whenever he could. He also loved making things out of wood. He always made sure it was precise and sturdy. John was a gunsmith and had a good selection of guns that he was proud of. He also made hat bands out of real snake skins. While on vacation and touring a cave, a lady following behind John asked the guide if there were snakes in the cave because she had been hearing the rattling of a rattlesnake from the hat band on John’s hat! He also made knives out of deer antlers and made their coverings out of leather. John gave the knives he made to family members and friends. He also made a wooden stand for equipment at his Baptist Church.
In his younger days he managed a little league team and even coached some at games. He was president of the Muskogee Roundup Club and helped wherever he could to be with his son. He was also leader of the Webelos Cub Scouts.
He loved his family very much and enjoyed the time spent with his granddaughters and especially his five great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered as a very talented and generous man.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Sybil Shiew.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Shiew, of the home; son, Danny Shiew and wife Brenda of Muskogee, OK; siblings, Claude Shiew of Lexington, MO, Wayne Shiew and Dewayne Shiew both of Muskogee, OK, Jimmy Shiew of McAlester, OK, Sharon Perry of Muskogee, OK, Leonard Shiew of Tulsa, OK, Betty Touchette of Tulsa, OK, and Judy Thomas of Muskogee, OK; granddaughters, Amber Horn and husband Matt of Muskogee, OK and Amy Shiew of Purcell, OK; his precious great-grandchildren, Seth Shiew, Angel Shiew, Misti Horn, Cody Horn, and Anna Shiew all of Muskogee, OK; and many family members and friends.
