John Edward Murrie, 83

Born Monday, August 3, 1936

Died Wednesday, November 27, 2019

John Edward Murrie, 83, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. He was born on August 3, 1936 to Charles Harmon Murrie and Pauline Louise (Rambo) Murrie-Notmeyer in Muskogee, Oklahoma. John graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1954. He served in The United States Air Force from 1957-1962 during the Vietnam Era and received an honorable discharge.
John married the love of his life, Norma Joan Avants, on June 21, 1959 at Lawrence Street Baptist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They were married for over 60 years and shared many happy memories together.
He worked as an electrical maintenance man at Corning Glass Works of Muskogee, Oklahoma from 1955-1992. John had a passion for bowling, softball and golfing. He was the secretary of Muskogee Men’s Bowling Association and a Hall Of Fame member. John was also a member of Lawrence Street Baptist Church where he played in the men’s softball league as pitcher for the church team. John enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and OU Sooners both baseball and football. Family was very important to him and he loved spending as much time as possible with them. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon Murrie and Louise Notmeyer; brothers, Charles Murrie and wife Barbara, and Kenneth Murrie; sisters Virginia Murrie and Nadine Crow, and by his beloved grandparents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Murrie of the home; daughter, Sallie Pawley and husband Jeff of Lithopolis, OH; son, Joel Murrie of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Kendall Jones and wife Destiny of Muskogee, OK, Adam Murrie and wife Nichole of Blacklick, OH, Kellie Burnett and husband Ben of Tulsa, OK, and Jordan Murrie of Muskogee, OK; great-grandchildren, Kielton Siedlik and Matic Siedlik both of Muskogee, OK, Liam Murrie and Nate Murrie both of Blacklick, OH, Braddock Burnett and Charlotte Burnett both of Tulsa, OK and Maddy Valderrama of Muskogee, OK; and many other family members and friends.
A celebration of John’s life will be 1PM, Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Lawrence Street Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremiah Blasi officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum with Ben Burnett, Kielton Siedlik, Darren Armstrong, Darel Armstrong, Don Jones and Adam Murrie serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Hershel Beaver, Bill Goodwin and Tommy Mann.
