Joann Mangum, 82

On December 6, 1939, Joseph Lee Reason and Abbie Lee (Byrd) Reason were blessed with a beautiful and strong-willed baby girl whom they named Joann Brenda Reason. She attended school in Slick, OK with her three brothers and one sister.

Joann accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age while attending church at Tuskegee Baptist Church. Once she moved to Okmulgee she became attached to and served faithfully at the Mt Zion Church of God in Christ under Pastor Frank and Bonnie Brazwell.

Joann gave birth to eight children, five boys and three girls. She spent her life time taking care of her children as well as others. She worked faithfully in the health field as a healthcare worker for over 50 years as both a certified medication aide and a certified nurse’s aide.

On Thursday, May 19, 2022, Joann transitioned from this life with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Abbie Reason; three brothers, Emerson Penn, Sr., Frank Barnett, and Joseph (Bo) Reason; one sister, Mary Reason; and three sons, Joe Lee, John, and Stevie Perry.

She leaves to cherish and continue her legacy of love: two sons, Stanley Reason and Aaron Perry; three daughters, Debra Lewis, Vivian Ward, and Texanna James; a special niece, Shelia Martin; special cousin, Mary Alice Byrd; her pride and joy, which consists of 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and neighborhood children and adults who have always made her house their home and called her “Grandma” too.

A Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in St Matthews Baptist Church, Okmulgee, OK with Pastor Frank Braswell of Mt Zion C.O.G.I.C. Okmulgee, OK, eulogizing. Interment will follow in Tuskegee cemetery, Edna, OK. Public visitation, Friday, May 27th in the Precious Memories Chapel of House of Winn Funeral Home-Okmulgee, during the hours of 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
