Ivan Dewey Burge, 88

Born Friday, December 5, 1930

Died Monday, October 28, 2019

Ivan Dewey Burge, 88, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 28, 2019. He was born on December 5, 1930 to Earl Dewey Burge and Bertie Mae (Fowler) Burge in St. Louis, Missouri. Ivan attended Desoto Public Schools in first grade through twelfth grade. He served in the United States Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge.
Ivan married the love of his life, Wanda Lee Blake, on August 28, 1953 in St. Louis Missouri. They shared over 66 years of life and marriage together.
Ivan was a truck driver and a hotel owner for many years until his retirement. He loved golfing, making clocks and had a passion for antique cars. Ivan was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved going to all the sports that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren played. He also loved singing in quartets and was a faithful member of Oldham Memorial Baptist Church for 34 years serving as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. Ivan loved his family very much and will always be remembered by the ones who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bertie Burge; stepmother, Ethel Burge; sister, Iris Dean Warren; brothers, Pete Burge and Dean Burpo.
Ivan is survived by his wife Wanda of the home; children, Steven M. Burge and wife Sharalyn of Oklahoma City, OK, Thela A. Hinnen and husband Bill of Hewitt, TX, and Dwaine Dewey Burge and wife Rhonda of Moberly, MO; sister, Jewell Angstrom of Desoto, MO; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, 5:30PM-7:30PM, Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials be made to Oldham Memorial Special Gift Fund.
A celebration of Ivan’s life will be 11AM, Friday, November 1, 2019 at Oldham Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Glen Little officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Mike Carter, Michael Burge, Keith Wallace, Nick Burge, Brandon Clagg and Wes Young serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Medley, Jeff Walker, Darrell Baird and Michael O’Keefe.
