Ira Lee Boss, 100, of Muskogee, Oklahoma departed this world on April 6, 2020 with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 28, 1919 to Douglas and Maude (Arbogast) Boss in Wainwright, Oklahoma. Ira graduated from Wainwright High School with the class of 1939.
He married the love of his life, Mabel Irene Guthrie, December 15, 1942 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared over 77 years of a happy life and have provided an example of a faithful and loving marriage to their family.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, was inducted at Fort Sill, and completed basic training at Camp Wallace and artillery training at Fort Bliss. Stationed in New York City, he served in an anti-aircraft battalion to protect the city from enemy planes. After some months and reassignments, Ira was sent overseas into France and then across the Rhine River into Germany. He returned home and was honorably discharged in December of 1945, and began family life in Oklahoma.
Ira worked for two lumber companies as a woodworker for 20 years. Woodworking was one of his favorite hobbies. He made cabinets, coffee tables, and hutches for his own home that he shared with Mabel. He also worked at an appliance store and at Nelson Furniture until his retirement in 1982.
Ira was a member of Chandler Road Church of Christ and served as an elder for many years. He had many hobbies, including golfing, making wood crafts, and playing games with all of his grandchildren. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. Ira was a faithful and principled man who provided love and support to all who knew him. His example provided a template of how to live life, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Maude Boss; and sisters, Claire Boss and Pauline Dodds.
Ira is survived by his loving wife, Mabel Boss of the home; sons, Chuck Boss and wife Susie of Eufaula, OK, Gary Boss and wife Radine of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren, Brytnee Hammonds and husband Greg of Eufaula, OK, Chelsi Parnosky and husband Kevin of Tulsa, OK, Darbye Cotner of Coweta, OK, Evynn Tapp and husband Dennis of Jones, OK, Favour Straughn and husband Lance of OKC, OK, Dominic Williams and wife Sarah of Anchorage, AK; great-grandchildren, Amylea and Bryndl Hammonds of Eufaula, OK, Stella and Erin Tapp of Jones, OK, Gaines and Miles Straughn of OKC, OK, and Zeke Williams of Anchorage, AK; sister-in-law, Alice Sutton and husband Lloyd of Tulsa, OK; and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Ira’s family has chosen to have a private family service under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 North York St., Muskogee, Oklahoma.
