Grover Cleveland Tillman, 79

Born Friday, December 15, 1939

Died Monday, November 25, 2019

Grover Cleveland Tillman
December 15, 1939-November 25, 2019
Grover & his beautiful bride, Roxie, were married for 59 years. They were wed June 10, 1960 amidst a whirlwind courtship of 4 months after having met in February of that same year. Since a person was to be 21 years old to marry at the time and Grover was not of age, Grandma Tillie had to sign the Marriage License for him to be married.
Grover loved all things hunting and fishing. He loved kids and people. Both of these were evident through his over 25 years of being a Boy Scout Leader and the multitude of outdoor adventures that he led his group of young men. Grover’s favorite thing to eat was potted meat sandwiches with Miracle Whip Mayo. Along with these sandwiches, he would enjoy a nice cold Dr Pepper or Mt. Dew.
Grover loved to share with others about Jesus. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1978 and became a Soldier of The Salvation Army March 28, 1978. Grover was a long time member of The Salvation Army. He enjoyed being involved in the church and its activities along with actively serving as the Corps Sargent Major for the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Katherine Tillman; son, Tony Tillman; granddaughter, Jennifer Tillman; sister, Ruth Reed; and son-in-law, Mike Katowich.
Grover is survived by his wife of 59 years, Roxie; daughters, Kathy Katowich, Cindy Swinford, and Becky Mott and husband Ron; grandchildren, Cody Swinford, Ty Swinford and wife Beth, Wyatt Mott, Colton Mott, and Tony Rankins; great-grandchildren, Nicci, Dennis and Misty Flatt, Gracelyn Swinford, Katrina, Treauna, Kenny, great-great-grandchildren, Taniquah, TyLan, Jr., Kylah and Kyhlan; siblings, George Tillman and wife Clara, Aurthur Tillman and wife Catherine, Jo Ann McBride and husband Sam, Bobby Branchcomb and husband Jacky, Ruby Rosson and husband Jimmy Rosson, Jr., and Cindy Tillman; brother-in-law, Willie Reed; special nephew, Steve McBride; special niece, Brenda Katowich; and many other family member and friends.
A celebration of Grover's life will be 10AM, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Lieutenant's Charles and Teri Smith officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Ty Swinford, Cody Swinford, Hayden Sallee, Wyatt Mott, Colton Mott, Jimmy Rosson, Harold Meeks, Hubert Tillman, Timmy Tillman, Sammy McBride, Chris McBride, Kyle Beatty and Kurt Beatty.
Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York Street, Muskogee, OK. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com.
