Greta Delores Davis, 84

Born Tuesday, July 16, 1935

Died Tuesday, March 17, 2020

Mother Greta D. Davis, after 84 years, is now resting in the presence of her Savior.

Our Mother, Greta Delores Dean was born July 16, 1935 to Samuel Dean and Asilee (Johnson) in Muskogee Oklahoma. She was the last survivor of the nine children born to this union.

A lifelong member of the Muskogee community, she grew up on the south side in Deans Addition, attending Douglas elementary, Sadler Junior High and graduated from the historic Manual Training High School with the class of 1953. She continued her educational pursuits by completed additional college credits and a variety of continuing education coursework.

She was an excellent seamstress and used her outstanding talent by receiving sewing requests at her home for many prominent people of the community at that time. Being a stay-at-home Mom for three daughters, she was committed to volunteering at the schools and community and church programs and events. When it was time for our younger brother to attend school, Mom was a Head Start Teacher and Teacher’s Aide in the Muskogee Public School system.

Mom was raised in Deans Chapel Baptist Church and during her lifetime, attended regularly and made sure we attended and participated in church activities. She humbly held many positions in the church over the years. Until her passing, she was recognized as the “Oldest Living Dean Descendant” at Deans Chapel Baptist Church. Mom was proud of “her church” and was known for providing support and encouragement; especially to the youth and their programs.

She was a faithful and dedicated wife to our Dad, the late Rudolph Thomas (R.T.) Davis for over 25 years.

We are so blessed that Mom was with us for 84 years as she overcame numerous medical surgeries and procedures. But on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, as Mom was surrounded by her three daughters, son and granddaughter, heaven gained a new angel, as she traveled home to glory to be welcomed in the Father’s arms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Asilee Johnson Dean, two brothers, Fred and Claude, six sisters, Jean, Josephine, Narcine, Claudette, Valeria and Beverly.

She is survived by her children: Rev. Mark T. Davis, Cedar Hill, TX; Rhonda Parish, Tulsa, OK; Debara Davis, Muskogee, OK; Virilyaih Scroggins, Tulsa Ok; grandchildren: Dr. Dayna Parish-Dennis and husband Jamaal Dennis, Oakland, CA; and great-granddaughters Jada and Journey Dennis.
In addition to her immediate family, she loved, nurtured and mentored a host of loved ones that made up her extended family. Including: Nephews/Nieces: Raymond (Tina) Ware; Tony Jenkins; Michael (Jeanette) Jenkins; Dawn (Willie) Graham; Paulette (Gerald) Parker; Vanessa Dean; Harlan Dean; Adrienne Thomas; Cory Dean; Son-in-Law: Jacfus Parish, Tulsa, OK; Stepchildren: Sam Davis Sr., Muskogee, OK; Georgia Davis, Muskogee, OK; Special Cousins: Gladys Johnson, Sacramento, CA; Erma Farmer, Ft. Worth TX; Beatress Fentress, San Diego, CA; Special niece: Dorothy Betts.

A “Special Thank You” to the Deans Chapel Baptist Church; the Muskogee community; staff and friends at the Senior Citizens Nutrition center at Rayfield Baptist Church; St. Francis Medical Center and ICU staff; Dr. Brent Dennis; Dr. Michael Malloy; and Dr. David Harris.

Her Sacred Farewell will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Dean's Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery.

Because of the social distance recommendations, attendance in the sanctuary will be limited to the recommended 50 persons in the family. Those wishing to pay respects are welcome to meet at the cemetery following the church ceremony.
