Fred Gene Edson, 94, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed from this life on Friday, September 6, 2019. He was born on March 31, 1925 to Fred Newton Edson and Lula Mae (Franz) Edson in Nevada, Missouri. Fred attended high school in Nevada, Missouri, but soon after graduation he enlisted to serve in the Navy. He then married the love of his life Ada Belle Edson on August 27, 1946 in Gerard, Kansas.
Fred was a Commercial Service Technician at Oklahoma Natural Gas for 38 years. He retired in 1984. He loved to go fishing, duck hunting, camping, and spending his summers in the beautiful cool Minnesota at Two Harbors. He also enjoyed wood carving, gardening, and working with stained glass.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Ada B. Edson; Herb Gotschall; son, Barry Edson; sisters, Margie Leslie Wheatland, Edith Marie Barclay, and Evelyn Bowers; parents, Fred Newton Edson and Lula Mae (Franz) Edson; grandson, David Lee Edson.
He is survived by his son, Fred Edson Sr. and wife Hazel of Sparta, Missouri; grandchildren, Ann Marie Embrey and husband Mike, Fred Allen Edson Jr. and wife Chandra, Chadwick Andrew Edson and wife Sarah, Carolyn Smith and husband Mike, Christopher John Maxwell, Barry Nicholas Edson and wife, Jared Daniel Edson, and Jason Isaac; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be 10:00am Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rex Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Mike Pierceall, Mike Embrey, Allen Edson, Chadwick Edson, and Tim Gotschall serving as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearer is Don Lowe.
