Fayrene Guinn, 90

Born Thursday, August 22, 1929

Died Monday, September 30, 2019

Fayrene McCoy Guinn, “Mac”, age 90, passed away peacefully September 30, 2019. She was born August 22, 1929 to Dillard and Beatrice McCoy in Howe, Oklahoma. Fayrene had two brothers and one sister. Fayrene’s childhood, during the Great Depresson of the 1930’s, was spent growing up in SE Oklahoma and Western Arkansas. She graduated from high school in Springdale, Arkansas in 1947.
Upon graduation, Fayrene moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma to attend a three year Diploma R.N. training program at Muskogee General Hospital, under the supervision of Miss Edna Rockefeller. While a nursing student, Fayrene met Fred D. Guinn Jr who was attending an x-ray technician training program there at the hospital after his discharge from the Navy. Fred and Fayrene Guinn married in a double wedding ceremony with Orville and Joan Guinn Eaton on December 26, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in Muskogee. Fred and Orville left the next day to return to Fort Polk, Louisiana and on to Japan and Korea for the next year. Fred and Fayrene had 3 sons, Michael, Patrick, and Danny, and were married for 51 years.
Fayrene spent more than 4 decades as a registered nurse here in Muskogee working at the Veterans Hospital, Muskogee General Hospital, and finally at the Muskogee Public Health Department, where she retired after 25 years of service.
Fayrene faithfully attended church at numerous Churches of Christ in the area, with her final membership at Muskogee Church of Christ. After retirement, her servant’s heart led her to volunteer at the Good Shepherd Medical Clinic and with the Meals on Wheels program. She was also involved in the Muskogee Little Theater and Audubon Society.
Fayrene’s family, church family, and professional family were everything to her. She loved to love on people and lit up the room with her beautiful smile and warm hugs. She was constantly sending encouraging notes, baking dishes, and giving gifts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Dillard B. McCoy Jr and wife Hazel, Gerald McCoy and wife Darlene, and Melba McCoy Hancock; as well as her loving husband, Fred D. Guinn, Jr.
Left to celebrate her life are her three sons, Michael Guinn, Patrick Guinn and wife Wilma, all of Muskogee, and Danny Guinn and wife Linda of Moore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Angela Skinner and husband Mike of Tahlequah, Justin Guinn and wife Megan of Bixby, Patrick Guinn (PJ) and wife Melissa of Fort Gibson; her great-grandchildren, Owen, Sophia, and Bronson Skinner, Ava and Tatum Guinn, Emily, Asher, Brock, and McCoy Guinn; along with many nieces and nephews and friends.
Fayrene’s life will be celebrated at 2PM, Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Muskogee Church of Christ, 3206 N York St, with Mr. Derek Pfeifer officiating.
Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York Street, Muskogee, OK. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com.
