Died Wednesday, April 10, 2019

John Delaney “Doc” Beal, longtime veterinarian, walked into the loving arms of Jesus on April 10, 2019. He was 80 years old. John was born September 1, 1938-Chicago, IL to parents Roscoe & Elynore (Siuszko) Beal. He was a graduate of John Marshall H.S. class of 1956-Los Angeles, CA. He received an Associate in Arts-Glendale College, B.S. in agriculture/animal husbandry-California State Polytechnic College-Pomona, CA, where he was also a gymnast, cheerleader, Mr. Cal-Poly, champion boxer, and member of Alpha Zeta Fraternity Delta Chapter. He served in the Air Force Reserves as an electrical engineer at Sheppard AF Base, TX. He took leave from the AF and hitchhiked, in his uniform, from Texas to Oklahoma, so he could marry his sweetie, Barbara Jane Greer-Muskogee, OK in 1962. The couple moved to Stillwater, OK, where he completed his doctorate in veterinary medicine (DVM)-Oklahoma State University (OSU) class of 1969. Go Pokes!
Upon graduation the family moved to California as Doc started his career in equine/bovine and companion medicine. In 1972 the family settled in Muskogee, OK. where he practiced large/small veterinary medicine for 46 years. Doc had a passion for animals. He operated on a white Siberian tiger, worked on numerous exotic animals, and had a soft spot for felines and German Shepherds. Doc had many accomplishments: first chair trumpet-LA youth orchestra, original founder/president-Muskogee Humane Society, Dale Carnegie speaker/educator, lifelong member of American Veterinary Medical Association/Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, and board member for OSU Veterinary College admissions. He held numerous roles at: Boulevard Christian Church, Christian Center, and served the last 20 years at Praise Center Family Church. He loved antique cars, junk metal, music, dancing, motorcycles, milk/cookies, ice cream, and potato chips. He LOVED mealtime, whether alone or with family/friends. He always said, he’d work until they threw dirt on his grave. Well, he did just that. He loved serving the community and caring for your special fur babies.
