He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Gracie Chaffin; and his brothers, David, Joe and James Chaffin.
Danny is survived by his wife, Laurie; sons, Shane Chaffin, Joey Chaffin (Jami); daughter, Shauna Padgett (Rob); sisters, Charlotte Brothers, and Jeannette Sanchez (Manuel); nephews, JD Chaffin, JJ Chaffin (Hailei), Manuel Sanchez, Jr. (Kaylin), Johnny Chaffin, Billy Dye, James Skaggs and Donnie Chaffin; nieces, Alicia Sanchez, Gracie Chaffin, Tina Garrison, Carol Jones and Kim Chaffin; grandchildren, Tiffany, Shane, Jr., and Haley Chaffin, Kylie and Rylie Bauer, and Emma Padgett; along with many other family members and friends.
Danny was third in the line of 6 kids and the responsibility of helping raise the younger 3 fell on his shoulders. He worked hard all his life starting out in the cotton and vegetable fields. His parents owned their own custom cotton harvesting business in Surprise, Arizona.
He began working construction early, traveling to Tulsa in his senior year to work for his Uncle John building the Falls Apartments. He sent most of his paychecks home to help support the family while his mom battled breast cancer, a fight she did not win. He ran his own crew of characters for several years working many years with ERC Construction. In between jobs, he had a lucrative sideline as a mussel diver. He retired from Case and Associates in May of 2018.
Danny enjoyed motorcycle riding, building antique trucks, and working in his garden. He loved to put something delicious in the oven that would cook all day while he sat in front of the TV complaining that there was never anything on and he would read and re-read old western books at the same time. He loved making Sunday morning breakfasts complete with cowboy biscuits from scratch, fried potatoes with onions, bacon and eggs while his brother Joe made the gravy. Enchiladas in his big iron skillet, tacos and tostados were also family favorites. We miss those delicious meals!
Danny was receiving excellent care through Transitions Life Care Hospice since October, 2018. They did an amazing job along with many prayers of keeping him comfortable throughout his whole ordeal with pancreatic cancer.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be 1PM, Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Bill Crow officiating.
