Charles “Chuck” R. Smith, 58

Born Tuesday, January 3, 1961

Died Wednesday, May 8, 2019

Charles Ridgzby “Chuck” Smith, 58 of Muskogee was born January 3, 1961 in Banning, California to John and Georgia Belle (Hall) Smith and peacefully passed away May 8, 2019 in Muskogee with his loving family by his side. Chuck spent most of his childhood in Wanette, OK where he attended school. The family later moved to Fort Gibson where Chuck graduated high school and continued his education at OSU Tech, graduating with a heating and air degree. The love of working with wood led him to a career of cabinetry for over 20 years where his work allowed others to enjoy the beauty of his woodworking ability. He also worked at Brockway Glass. Chuck was a kind soul with a very giving heart. He was always willing to give anyone a helping hand, and his door was open to anyone that needed a place to stay. A lover of animals, Chuck took in stray dogs and would care for them until their owners were found. Chuck loved the Lord. His ministry as the Sunday School Director at the First Indian Baptist Church in Muskogee was his calling. He was very proud of his faith and the opportunity to attend the Promise Keepers Rally. He enjoyed spending time with his brother John working on his truck and was looking forward to his brother Eddie coming in from California to spend time with him. Chuck loved and adored his grandchildren, his wife, his mom and his siblings. His family was the love of his life. Chuck was preceded in death by his father John Dewey Smith on April 26, 1963, his grandpa, Otis Day on November 24, 1980; his grandmother, Pansy Day on June 11, 1994; step-dad, Dean Waggoner on July 28, 1991 and his beloved dog Lucy. He is lovingly survived by his wife Sheila of the home; sons, Rocky Ballard, Adam Hart and John Dewey Smith all of Muskogee, OK; mother, Georgia B. Waggoner of Fort Gibson, OK; brothers, John C. Smith and wife Sandy of Fort Gibson, OK; Edward J. Smith and wife Cathy of Temecula, CA; sisters, Natalie Schoemann and husband Joe of Wanette, OK; Kathy Nichols and husband Johnny of Fort Gibson, OK; and Denise Hoos and husband Rick of Wagoner, OK; his grandchildren, Logan Ballard, Nathalya Smith, Addison Hart and Jordan Hart; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends. Chuck was reunited with his daddy to play baseball and his beloved dog Lucy who was his shadow and enjoyed their car rides for ice cream. Viewing will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 1PM-7PM at the Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson. A celebration of Chuck’s life will be 10AM Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in the Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eddie Lindsey officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in the Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson with Andy Ballard, Justin Mitchell, Brad Lindsey, Justin Manes, TJ Nichols and Danny Nichols serving as casket bearers.
