Bill D. Chanslor, 88, of Fort Gibson, OK was born June 3, 1933 in Ponca City, OK to William Henry Chanslor and Della Ann (Eddings) Chanslor and peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021 in Tulsa, OK with his loving family by his side.
In June of 1952, Bill joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in June of 1956 as an Airman First Class.
Bill met, fell in love and later married the love of his life, Opal Moore on July 15, 1960 in Cushing, OK. Bill was a devoted husband to Opal for 61 years, making precious memories together.
He was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Communication Technician for almost 30 years. Bill retired in 1987.
At the age of 63, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson, OK.
Bill was an avid fisherman. He was a master tinkerer and inventor who spent hours in his oversized garage, barn and shed that doubled as a hardware store. One of his inventions was the Tubo, a styrofoam fishing tube complete with a trolling motor mount. He raced the Tubo in the Tulsa Great Raft Race in his 80’s. Bill also had a boxing career that spanned over 30 years with his participation in a Tough Man contest at the age of 48.
Bill and Opal lived in Fort Gibson for almost 50 years. He was fiercely devoted to his family and friends. Bill only had one biological child, but served as a father figure to many more. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill is lovingly survived by his wife, Opal of the home; son, Mike Chanslor and wife Cindy; granddaughters, Martyne Farris and Grace McCoy; great-grandson, Gawain Farris; great-granddaughter, Eilonwy Farris; and extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Chanslor; sisters, Mattie Kimbrel and Betty Driesbach; nephews, John Chanslor, Bob Kimbrel and Frank Kimbrel.
Viewing for Bill will be 12PM-5PM Monday, December 6, 2021 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson.
A service Celebrating Bill’s life will be 12:30PM, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson, OK with Brother Butch Cook officiating.
Committal prayers and interment will follow at 2:30PM in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Lonnie Broomfield, Gene Cottom, Veto Delmedico, Jimmy Jackson, Jr., Richard Kimbrel and Gary Smith serving as casket bearers. David Chanslor will serve as honorary casket bearer.
