Alamae “Polly” Cordelia Ferguson, 86

Born Saturday, September 29, 1934

Died Wednesday, January 6, 2021

Alamae Cordelia (Gibbs) Ferguson, entered eternal rest on January 6, 2021, at the age of 86.
Alamae, known to most by her preferred childhood nickname Polly, was born in Delta, Colorado to James and Cordelia (Wilkinson) Gibbs, on September 29, 1934. Her family moved several times as her father searched for work to feed his family. She had an abiding respect for her hardworking parents. Rather than dwelling on the difficulties they experienced, her memories were colored with joyful snapshots of her family reading the Bible, playing musical instruments, and singing together. Eventually, her family moved to Loving, New Mexico, again searching for work. She had a lifelong love for the scenery of New Mexico, in particular her memory of being able to see El Capitan from her family’s home.
Polly met and married H.B. Ferguson, Jr., in Carlsbad, New Mexico, on June 7, 1952. Their daughter Patricia Ann was born in Carlsbad in 1953. In 1955 their son Ronald Dean was born in Mountain Home, Idaho.
Polly lived on or near Air Force bases for the first twenty years of her marriage. She lovingly raised their children while H.B. served his country. After retiring from the Air Force, they moved to Gore, Oklahoma where they opened their own business, Gore Marine, which they operated for over thirty years. Polly worked tirelessly alongside her husband over the decades.
Polly deeply loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She faithfully read the Bible and prayed with her grandchildren and was always pointing them to Christ. She adored her family. She spent hours with them visiting, reading, singing, praying, and laughing. She enjoyed playing her guitar, sewing, reading her Bible and religious books, reading and writing poetry, and cooking for her family.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, H.B. Ferguson, Jr.; both of her parents; siblings Lilly Gibbs, Faye Turney, and Sherry Buss; and granddaughter Rebecca Ferguson. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Ashwood (John) of Fort Gibson; son Ronald Ferguson (Debra) of Webbers Falls; grandchildren Joshua (Maria) Ashwood, Caleb (Elisabeth) Ashwood, Samuel (Joy) Ashwood, Sarah (Steven) Blackwell, Mercy (Jeremy) Ogea, Hannah (Joel) McGee, Amanda (Joshua) Spiegel, Emily Ferguson, Bethany Ferguson, Christiana (Jake) Petry, Rachel (Daniel) Hinkle, Sierra (Isaiah) See, Heather (Zachary) Rowton, Laura Ferguson, and Ronald Ferguson, Jr.; 32 great-grandchildren; siblings Jimmie Sanders, Vera Allen, and Wayne (Bud) Gibbs; and multiple nieces, nephews, and friends.
