Despite persistent social media rumors, the city has no plans to shut off water service to Muskogee, they just confirmed.
Many posts on Facebook are proclaiming that the city is planning to shut off water due to possible contamination from flood waters. The city, however, has contingency plans in place and water service is expected to continue uninterrupted.
UPDATE: Trish German, temporary spokesperson for the city, just said the city is now saying there may be a possibility under which water may be shut off. If floodwaters go much higher than predicted, the lines providing electricity to the water pumps may be compromised, at which point the water pressure will no longer be able to be maintained.
If that occurs, water would cease to be available after about 60 minutes.
The city is monitoring the situation.
