A single-engine airplane made an emergency landing in the southbound lane of South Main Street, just north of Smith Ferry Road about an hour ago, according to witnesses, who said it then veered off into the median.
Brandon Davidson of Muskogee was driving and looking at items to the west of the roadway at the Bartholet Auction, when he noticed a plane flying very low.
“I just thought they were taking pictures of the auction or something,” Davidson said. “And then he landed on the road in front of me and went off into the ditch.”
The pilot, he said, appeared to escape the wreck unscathed.
Only the nose of the plane appeared to be damaged on the scene.
Military helicopters flew in “about two hundred miles an hour,” Davidson said, and landed to help at the scene.
We will update as more details become available.
