Muskogee Municipal Judge C. Bart Fite was found dead tonight around 10:30 p.m. in his west side home.
Fite, who was arrested late last week on a complaint of domestic violence—which his wife later said was an error, appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Muskogee Police.
Family friend Greg Archer found Fite’s body.
If Fite had been charged with a crime in the domestic violence arrest, he stood to lose his license to practice law in addition to whatever penalties might have accompanied the case.

“Tonight at around 1030pm, the Muskogee Police Department was dispatched to the residence of local attorney, Bart Fite on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Fite deceased from what appears to be a self- inflicted gun shot wound. As the investigation is ongoing, no further details will be released at this time.”
