Traffic to and from Tulsa might be impeded this morning as the Oklahoma Highway Patrol waits on the US Coast Guard to arrive and inspect the Oklahoma Highway 51 bridge at the navigational channel.

At 5:41 a.m. today, a tug boat towing four barges struck the bridge, the patrol reports.

No damage has been reported on the bridge, but the coast guard has requested it be shut down until a complete inspection can be performed.

UPDATE: The patrol is now saying only the inside lane of eastbound traffic will be shut down at the Verdigris River.
